Program Objective: To train the student to understand basic accounting principles and bookkeeping procedures utilizing both manual and computerized accounting systems. Graduates will be able to obtain employment as a bookkeeper, AR Clerk or AP Clerk. For a shorter, single "Introduction to Bookkeeping and Accounting" course click here.
Program Description: This program consists of three courses that give the student basic accounting theory, popular business applications and business theory. Students perform the entire bookkeeping process through the use of sole proprietorship and corporate simulations. The student will work with IBM PC compatible computers using applications in accounting. A Microsoft Office applications course is included to enhance computer skills. This program is designed to update the skills of the mature student.

This course introduces computer literacy and software. It overviews the Windows operating system as well as providing a broad base knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. The word processing segment discusses document creation and editing, printing, text insertion and deletion, justification, indents, tabs and saving documents. The spreadsheet segment explores worksheet setup, formulas, formatting, and printing to evaluation "what if" situations. Typical business applications are provided to demonstrate the operation of the software. Prerequisite: None

In this course the student is prepared to perform the bookkeeping and accounting functions commonly found in a small to medium size business. Topics include; double entry accounting, account setup, analyzing and recording transactions, special journals, accounts receivable and accounts payable, cash disbursements and cash receipts. Students learn through realistic accounting simulations and projects utilizing computer accounting software. Prerequisite: None

Day School - Monday through Friday from 8:30a.m. to 3:30p.m.-8 weeks
